About
Why I Started NeuroNest
NeuroNest was born from a need I saw again and again — neurodivergent adults looking for support that actually works for them. Many of my clients use Access to Work to fund their support, and over the years I have met many neurodiverse people needing support but unable to access help towards funding.
Not corporate coaching. Not generic advice. But respectful, practical, personalised support rooted in real understanding.
At NeuroNest, there’s no one-size-fits-all. Every digital toolkit, course and download is designed to reflect the reality of how ADHD and autistic brains function — gently, flexibly, and with space to try things your own way. Whether you’re looking to better manage your time, build self-trust, create structure without burnout, or develop habits that support you, you’ll find resources that are grounded in real life.
My work is built around clarity, compassion, and respect. If something doesn’t work for you, we pivot. Neurodivergent success looks different — and that’s a good thing.
My Story
Welcome – I’m Mairi, Founder of NeuroNest
Neurodivergent Mentor & Support Coach
From an early age, I found comfort in the quiet company of animals. That connection led me to study Animal Science at Aberdeen University, and later shaped my values: compassion, empathy, and understanding without judgment.
But like many neurodivergent people, my path hasn’t followed the traditional route — and I see that as a strength. I’ve worked in hospitality, offices, property lettings, and as an equine groom. I even ran my own dog grooming and pet shop business. Every role taught me something new about people, patience, and persistence.

My Neurodivergent Experience
I wasn’t always aware I was neurodivergent. For most of my life, I simply thought I was “bad at life” — overwhelmed by tasks, unable to stick to rigid systems, and getting bored and needing more variety in my working life than others.
A few years ago, I recognised the signs of ADHD in myself. Understanding my neurotype brought relief and clarity. I finally had an understanding of my struggles and things started to make more sense.
My own lived experience of ADHD, chronic illness, and grief deeply informs how I create and share tools today. I know how it feels to push through fatigue, to be misunderstood, and to live in a world that wasn’t designed for your brain.
Chronic Health, Grief & Understanding
When I was 13, I had a serious horse riding accident and broke my back. Since then, I’ve lived with chronic pain and developed endometriosis that impacts every part of my life. I understand what it’s like to work through pain, navigate energy crashes, and balance goals with unpredictable health.
In 2017, I also experienced the sudden loss of my mum — an event that changed everything. I’ve lived through years of grief and its aftermath, and I know how long the healing process really takes. These experiences ground me in real empathy for those carrying invisible loads.
